Description:

The Ronald E. Moore Humanities Symposium provides an academic forum for invited speakers to present on the fundamental issues and questions about the human experience and to promote discussion that advances human understanding of local and global concerns.

The 2020 Symposium is dedicated to a discussion of the question, What is well-being?

The past twenty years have brought a surge of interest in the question what it is to be well, to live well, and to flourish. The “mindfulness movement” represents a unique development in public discourse because it draws from both Western and non-Western traditions. In the academic world, it welcomes contributions from across a wide variety of disciplines including neuroscience, psychology, philosophy, religious studies, medicine, and anthropology. The topic of well-being has a certain richness about it insofar as it opens further conversations about human goodness, the nature of the self or selflessness, self-knowledge, the interrelation of self and world, and practical strategies for living well.
